Some girl yesterday called herself a flexatarian. Don’t the terms vegetarian, vegan, carnivore, omnivore, etc, describe the outer bounds of what you’re willing to eat? It seems to me that a flexatarian is merely an omnivore, but one that’s afraid of representing himself/herself with the rest of the partaking human race. When someone asks me if i’m a vegetarian, for instance, I don’t explain to them under what circumstances I’m willing to eat meat, I simply say, “No.” The attempt to paint what is arguably a fuller picture replete with meaningful distinctions seems to me a sad attempt to impress vegetarians/vegans. If I eat everything, then I say so, because that’s the question.
