Technological Incongruency

I think most people don’t like video conferencing/video chat because you don’t spend any time looking at the other person in the eyes. You look at a screen which shows another person looking at a screen. I’ve got this same feeling about Facebook/GChat status updates where you write your update in third person and you read another person’s third person update. I always feel strange reading a status update that I know another person composed in the third person. Technology should be such that I can write my status update in first person but another person reads it in third person. Then I not only read a correctly formulated sentence with all the pronouns in their right places, I can rest assured that that person didn’t refer to themself in the third person even though I’m reading it as if that might as well have been the case. That would mean progress.
