2 meals
My cab driver took me to a dim sum place that he called old fashioned and said you could only find it in Hong Kong. I arrived confused, all right, and somewhat ostracized. I ended up drinking tea out of the bowl that I was supposed to sanitize my eating utensils with, and the other guy at my table pointed at me and with a look of incredulity basically said to his friend, “What the fuck is that Chinese guy doing?”
Reeling from that experience, I looked for a dinner place where they’d treat me nice and like the foreigner-king that I am. I made my way to T’ang Court which has two Michelin stars and a prix fixe menu for about $60 USD. For a Michelin star rated restaurant, the service was comely but somewhat unrefined. For instance, my waiter had horrible teeth. I realized that the food was Chinese banquet food, which I hate. I ate standards like shark fin soup and abalone of some kind. The best thing I had there was a heart-shaped gelatin made out of honeydew. I’m leaving tomorrow for Taipei.
