Anand: there's something i need to get off my chest... you often seem to be fronting as some too cool for school disaffected youth thing hiding behind exhaustion

Some girl yesterday called herself a flexatarian. Don’t the terms vegetarian, vegan, carnivore, omnivore, etc, describe the outer bounds of what you’re willing to eat? It seems to me that a flexatarian is merely an omnivore, but one that’s afraid of representing himself/herself with the rest of the partaking human race. When someone asks me if i’m a vegetarian, for...

In “If I were a boy,” Beyonce has some line about having her boys stick up for her if she (as a he) was chasing girls and her significant other confronted her (as him) about it. A female friend the other day said that dudes don’t like to kick it with girls unless they’re getting some, and the conundrum was that she wanted male friends. The general suggestion seemed to be...

A year and a half ago, I kicked it with Youngna in Santa Monica with some cool kids. One of them said something to me about me fronting with some too cool for school youth disaffected thing. Thinking back on it, I was just really tired that day. I had started driving that morning from Phoenix, AZ at 4am. Whew, I’m glad I got that off my chest.

Technological Incongruency
I think most people don’t like video conferencing/video chat because you don’t spend any time looking at the other person in the eyes. You look at a screen which shows another person looking at a screen. I’ve got this same feeling about Facebook/GChat status updates where you write your update in third person and you read another person’s third person update. I always feel...

Oklahoma RB DeMarco Murray to miss title game with... →
Is this the end for Okalahoma? I’ve gotta think that something like 80% of Bradford’s passing yards come on YAC. A quick perusal of Murray’s stats show that he had 395 receiving yards this season, but 56 against Texas and 71 against Tech. If I recall correctly, it was Murray that started the rout against Tech by just carving up their defense on short catches. I’m just...

hierarchy: everybodycares: Chad is 74.8% addicted. (Compare yourself) oomb is 66.8% addicted. I hate that I am only 56.4% addicted. I thought I knew my shit. I only scored around 50% on this but I don’t feel so bad because I don’t waste too much of my time watching movies made by old white people.

I was pretty sure that Colt was going to get thrown the Heisman as a consolation prize, but the Sooners jobbed the Longhorns even for that worthless bone. Sam Bradford, another in a long line of illustrious Sooner quarterbacks which include Jason White and Josh Heupel.

I think it’s ok that we ended up with Oklahoma v. Florida in the National Championship game, but why couldn’t the BCS give us Texas v. Alabama too?

I met a girl last night that works in Google AdWords and I called her (with due credit to Ghan) an ad wench. She said, “That was not very nice.” And then turned to talk to someone else.

Mother in Labor Ticketed When Husband Drives in Breakdown Lane: What a cruel, heartless cop, right? That’s the way the story is written. But wait. If you read the story carefully, when the cop pulled the husband over, he was attending to a car in the breakdown lane, where the husband was driving illegally (albeit allegedly with the permission of cops he encountered previously). In other...

One thing that Top Chef panel criticism brings out is how important psychology is in cooking/eating. When they kicked the dude off this last time for his smores, they emphasized how they were “disappointing.” Disappointment doesn’t indicate quality in an absolute sense, only in a relative matter compared with expectations. The judges have repeatedly dissed people for calling...

Gus Van Sant's Milk Recaptures Californian... →
Corny as it is, Van Sant’s ending still packs a wallop. Milk is so immediate that it’s impossible to separate the movie’s moment from this one. The 1978 victory over Prop. 6 merges with the current struggle against California’s Proposition 8, overturning the State Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage. A charismatic leader has yet to emerge, but there is...

Movie Review - 'Synecdoche, New York' - Dreamer,... →
Mr. Kaufman’s kinked, playful screenplays are usually accompanied by a flurry of “e” adjectives: eclectic, eccentric, edgy, eggheady. (Also: quirky.) That’s true only if you consider the contemporary American screen, with its talking Chihuahuas and adult male babies with mother fixations. Come to think of it, the main character in “Synecdoche” has a thing about poop and bosomy women, though...

How can people say that we don’t have a playoff when essentially the SEC champion will play Oklahoma (if it wins) or Texas in the National Championship game? Isn’t that a perverse 4-team playoff?
